Russell Tolley

Russell was born in 1962. He attended King Edward VI Grammar School in Stourbridge, West Midlands before studying for his law degree at Nottingham University. He subsequently qualified as a solicitor in 1986, returning to Nottingham to work that year, initially with Rotheras and subsequently with Berryman & Co before joining Rupert Bear & Co alongside John Hooper in 1994. He finally joined John Hooper & Co in October 2002.

Russell has, throughout his career, specialised in family law. Although at one point he was a member of the Law Society’s Specialist Children Panel, he now tends more to specialise in financial proceedings ancillary to divorce. Nevertheless, he still deals with complex Children related matters on a regular basis.

Russell has therefore a broad range of experience. In financial proceedings he has on several occasions obtained million-pound plus settlements for wives in high net worth cases and avoided such payments when representing husbands in similar circumstances.

Russell has also obtained consistently favourable settlements for both husbands or wives where the overall assets are less valuable and consideration has to be given to a division based on the respective needs of the parties. He has also obtained consistently positive results within proceedings relating to children.

Russell also regularly handles disputes between former cohabitees, particularly those involving joint or solely owned properties and where the law is less clear than for married couples. This is a rapidly changing area of the law where specialist advice is vital, both at the commencement and at the breakdown of the relationship.

Russell is married and lives locally with two teenage sons. His interests include sport, driving and real Ale pubs.
