Kirpal Bidmead
Kirpal
qualified as a solicitor in 1996 after completing her training
contract in Peterborough. She then worked as a newly qualified
solicitor in Huntingdon, specialising in family law. Whilst being
involved in cases concerning all family issues, to include divorces
and separation, she began to acquire a particular expertise in
cases involving complex financial issues. A number of Kirpal’s
cases were from the farming community enabling her to develop
her knowledge in this field.
In 2000 Kirpal moved to Nottingham and commenced
work at Harvey Ingram in Leicester. By now, Kirpal had developed
a specialisation in cases involving complex financial issues and
she also had the opportunity to continue her involvement in children’s
cases. A number of cases involved both disputes relating to children
as well as financial disputes.
After 4 years at Harvey Ingram, Kirpal sought
to move to a niche practice specialising in family law. In February
2004, Kirpal joined John Hooper & Co. Here, Kirpal has been
able to continue taking on cases involving complex financial issues
where a couple either divorce or separate. More often than not,
these are big money cases involving complex financial arrangements,
including family businesses, private company share holding issues,
partnerships, pension disputes and cases involving UK and international
trusts.
Kirpal has developed an expertise in locating
assets that have not been voluntarily disclosed by the other side,
by forensically analysing business accounts and bank/building
society/credit card statements and following up various leads.
She keeps up to date with the changes in family
law, for example, the introduction of Civil Partnerships and the
proposed changes to laws governing cohabitation, which have highlighted
the need for Cohabitation Agreements (also known as Living Together
Agreements). Due to these developments in the law, Kirpal has
increasingly been involved in drafting detailed Pre-Nuptial Agreements
and Cohabitation Agreements.
Kirpal is a member of Resolution, an organisation
which believes in a constructive approach to family law issues
and which seeks to improve the family justice system.
On a personal note, Kirpal lives with her husband
in Nottingham. She enjoys travel, the theatre and live music and
comedy.
